“Welcoming the Stranger; Presbyterian Responses to the Immigrant Communities”

Join us for afternoon lecture series focusing on Presbyterian responses to immigrant communities. The lecture series, now in its fourth year, is co-sponsored by the Montreat Conference Center, the Presbyterian Heritage Center at Montreat, the Montreat Adult Summer Club, and Columbia Seminary’s program in Presbyterian & Reformed History & Theology. Admission is free and pre-registration is not required.

The 2010 series of lectures will be held in Convocation Hall in Assembly Inn from 2:30 – 4:00 PM and includes the following: July 19, Justo Gonzalez, “To Begin: Who Is the Stranger?”; July 20, Julia Thorne “The Ministry of Advocacy and Justice for Immigrants Today;” July 21, Rodger Nishioka, “Moving beyond WWII Prisons to a Reconciling Partnership with Japanese Christians;” and July 22, Jin Kim, “Building a Church of All Nations: Toward Multicultural Community in the Presbyterian Church.”

Wednesday evening, July 21st, will feature a gathering coordinated by the Presbyterian Heritage Center and the Montreat Adult Summer Club. Participants will be treated to “A Presbyterian Tale in Stories & Music: Missions to Immigrant & Native Populations,” as told by several 19th century Presbyterian missionaries, including Melinda Rankin, Rev. Gideon Blackburn, Donaldina Cameron, Rev. John Chavis and Dr. Edward Guerrant.
