Summer Worship Series

Sundays at 10:30 am

June 7–August 9, 2020Worship
A Montreat Conference Center Event

Each summer, Montreat Conference Center, Montreat Presbyterian Church, and the Montreat community near and far join for worship on Sunday mornings. In 2020, our online format and space may be different, but we are committed to gathering as the body of Christ for prayer, preaching, art, music, and community.

The Spirit loves to stir up creativity here in Montreat, and we look forward to services filled with stirring preaching, wondrous art, vibrant music, and life-giving liturgy. Our Summer Worship Team – Hannah Garrity, Keith Grogg, Ann Laird Jones, Heather Scott, Carol Steele, and Eric Wall – continue their work this year here in Montreat. Our guest preachers will speak to us from many different places. Trusting “in the one Triune God, whom alone we worship and service,” we are, however distant, still a worshiping body – in Charles Wesley’s words, “lost in wonder, love, and praise.”

Join Sunday’s Service Here

Worship will be posted at 10:30 on Sunday morning. On July 12 we will gather around the Lord’s Table for Communion.

Leadership

Summer Worship Team

Planning for each Sunday service begins with a scripture text chosen by the week’s guest preacher. With texts in mind, the study and planning begin. Ann Laird Jones, arts ministry director, and Hannah Garrity, summer liturgical artist, begin to imagine how the text can be interpreted visually. Eric Wall, conference center musician, selects music that will proclaim God’s Word through congregational and choral singing. The summer liturgy writer writes the words that move the congregation through gathering, hearing the Word, responding, and being sent into the world. As summer approaches, the team expands to include Keith Grogg, pastor of the Montreat Presbyterian Church; the summer ministry team; and our audiovisual director, Heather Scott. This group, along with Richard DuBose and Carol Steele, meets regularly through the summer. Many other hands contribute to summer services as ushers, singers, communion servers, liturgists, and facilities and production crew members.

All comments concerning the Summer Worship Series can be directed to Carol Steele.
