Summer Worship Series 2021

Sundays at 10:30 am

June 6–August 8, 2021SummerWorship
A Montreat Conference Center Event

Montreat Conference Center is a Christian hospitality organization with roots in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). For over 100 years, we have been a place set apart for those who journey here seeking a closer relationship with their Creator. Every summer we host 10 weeks of worship services in partnership with Montreat Presbyterian Church where we invite guest preachers to bring the Word of God to us. In 2021, we are committed to gathering as the body of Christ for prayer, preaching, art, music, and community.

The Covid protocols for Montreat Conference Center this summer enable us to care for one another, recognizing that not everyone is yet able to be vaccinated and that we are an intergenerational community.

Seating: You are free to sit and distance as you like and as may be comfortable.

Masks: Until further notice, all persons (staff, congregants, conferees, etc.) in worship, conferences, and clubs will wear masks indoors. If you arrived without one, you can pick one up at the front desk of the auditorium.

Singing: We’ll take our first steps by singing short responses and short portions of hymns. Other singing in the service will be done by assisting musicians. As we find our way back to singing over the next weeks, we will engage the words and music of hymns in a variety of ways: listening, reading, humming, singing.

Recordings: We try our best to get the recording of the prelude, postlude, and sermon posted in a timely manner. Recordings are typically posted no later than Tuesdays at noon. However, circumstances may arise where we’re unable to fulfill that time frame. We ask for your patience if a video is not yet posted.

Leadership

Summer Worship Team

Planning for each Sunday service begins with a scripture text chosen by the week’s guest preacher. With texts in mind, the study and planning begin. Ann Laird Jones, arts ministry director, and Hannah Garrity, summer liturgical artist, begin to imagine how the text can be interpreted visually. Eric Wall, conference center musician, selects music that will proclaim God’s Word through congregational and choral singing. The summer liturgy writer writes the words that move the congregation through gathering, hearing the Word, responding, and being sent into the world. As summer approaches, the team expands to include Keith Grogg, pastor of the Montreat Presbyterian Church; the summer ministry team; and our audiovisual director, Heather Scott. This group, along with Richard DuBose and Carol Steele, meets regularly through the summer. Many other hands contribute to summer services as ushers, singers, communion servers, liturgists, and facilities and production crew members.

All comments concerning the Summer Worship Series can be directed to Carol Steele.
