Campground and Hiking Shelter Reservations

The Montreat Campground opens May 2, 2025 and closes November 2, 2025.

All weekend reservations (Friday and Saturday nights) must be a minimum of two nights, even if the system allows you to reserve only one night. If you reserve only one night on a weekend, your reservation will be adjusted manually by the Front Desk to charge for the additional night.

The shelters are available year-round and reservations must be a minimum of two nights.

If you are making same-day reservations: Please Call the Front Desk of Assembly Inn at 828.419.9844.

A seven (7) day cancellation notice is required for a full refund.  If cancellation notice is at least three (3) days prior to your arrival date, you will be charged for one night's stay. If cancellation is less than three (3) days, there will be no refund. No exceptions will be made in the event of forecasted or actual inclement weather.

Yes, I have read and understand the weekend 2-night minimum policy (must book Friday and Saturday) and the cancellation policy.

Would you like to reserve a campground site or a hiking shelter? *

Shelters are available year-round and require a minimum of two nights.

These are back-country shelters and are not located in the campground; The Walker Knob Shelter is approximately 4 miles from the Greybeard trailhead and the Buck Gap Shelter is approximately 1.5 miles from the Lookout Trailhead. These shelters do not have any amenities such as electricity, running water or plumbed toilets.

Notice: The lower section of the Graybeard trail, Sanctuary trail, Julia Woodward trail, and the Harry Bryan trail are still closed pending bridge and trail repairs. Elizabeth’s Path remains partially closed due to damaged parts of the trail owned by the Town of Montreat.

The upper section of Graybeard Trail and Walker’s Knob is accessible, however, it still remains a less stable area. Please exercise extreme caution when hiking in the area. The trail is accessible via three routes:

Reserving a hiking shelter costs $1 per adult per night.

Thank you for your interest in camping in the Montreat Family Campground! The questionnaire below is designed to help you pick the best camp site for your stay.

Please note the site numbers this questionnaire suggests before you move on to the next step.

If you have any questions about the sites, please call the Front Desk of Assembly Inn at 828-419-9844.
