Summer in Montreat is Here 06/02/2023
Richard DuBose, president of Montreat Conference Center, writes a weekly message to Montreat. An excerpt of this weeks message is below. To read his full message, click the "Read More" button below the excerpt.
A fittingly Scottish rainy morning greeted the annual gathering of Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan Worship Service in Anderson Auditorium on Sunday morning. Summer staff are landing and settling into lodging arrangements, adjusting to new work responsibilities, and making new and renewed connections with each other. Memorial Day has been observed, and despite the chill in the air, the green flag of summer is waving everywhere. Summer in Montreat is here. As always, the conference center’s programming portends much of the familiar. The conference schedule remains very much the same, highlighted by a Women’s Connection in early August that promises to . . .
This Sunday in Montreat
We are delighted to continue our Summer Worship Series in which leading preachers from across the country join with visual artists, musicians, and volunteers in a service of worship open to the surrounding community. All are welcome and all are invited.
All summer worship services take place in Anderson Auditorium at 10:30 am.
Preaching Sunday, June 4, 2023
Dr. Robert Gamble has been the director of This Child Here in Ukraine since 2006 and is providing aid and trauma-based programs for families displaced by the war. His sermon draws on Romans 8: 18–25 and Psalm 28: 6–9, and is titled "Immediacy of Hope."
Special Learning Hour
On Sunday, June 4, the first week of the Conference Center's summer worship series, we have the opportunity for a learning hour with the day's guest preacher, Dr. Robert Gamble. Our class time will include an overview of the work of This Child Here with families displaced by the war in Ukraine, including a more in-depth focus on the issues of trauma. In on-line attendance will be the Director of Programs, Olya Balaban, speaking from our Center for Creative Activities in Izmail, Ukraine. Join us at 9:30 AM in Upper Anderson for this event.
