The Mountain Retreat Association has been notified that a ruling from Buncombe County Superior Court will set aside the permit to build a new lodge which was granted to the conference center by the Town of Montreat’s Board of Adjustment in the spring of 2022. We will await the Court’s formal order before commenting specifically on the decision.
The conference center’s primary mission is to serve the Church of Jesus Christ, and our board’s deliberations and decisions will continue to prioritize that commitment above all else. On behalf of our board, I also want to thank every single person who added their own support to the broad coalition of stakeholders that recognizes the need for the new lodge.
