Start 2027 Off Right with College Conference @ Montreat

Posted on

For many, the beginning of the year is a time to reset and refocus. We set new goals, begin new habits, and strive to become the best versions of ourselves each January. And college students are no different! Except, they start off the year with new classes, a new semester, and perhaps even graduation looming right around the corner. This makes taking an opportunity to pause and reconnect with your values an essential part of the collegiate experience. That’s why we host College Conference @ Montreat between January 2–5 each year. During this three-day event, young adults between the ages of 18-22 are invited to engage in meaningful conversations, hear from inspirational faith leaders, and attend workshops on important topics to help guide them in starting the year off right.

You don’t have to be Presbyterian, a religion major, or even in college in order to attend. Everyone between the ages of 18 and 22 is invited. Additionally, there are opportunities for both individuals and groups to participate. Keep reading to find out more!

This Year’s Theme

During this year’s conference, we will explore the theme “For Such a Time as This.” What does it look like to be a person of faith these days? Especially when answers and opinions can vary widely. This year’s conference aims to provide clarity for young adults striving to understand God’s will for their lives while giving them access to a community who can support and encourage them for the work ahead.

Changes to Group Discussion

During the 2027 conference, we are creating new opportunities for participants to reflect on the conference theme and the ideas shared during worship and keynote. Instead of Critical Conversation Groups, this year we will have time set aside for groups to engage in these discussions with their own Back Home Groups. A discussion guide will be provided for group leaders to help guide and facilitate the conversation.

Don’t worry! If you plan to attend as an individual, there will be a designated leader who will direct the discussion for you. Additionally, groups with fewer than ten people can request to be paired with another group, creating opportunities for a wider range of perspectives to be shared. Let us know when you complete your registration if you are interested. (Of course, feel free to buddy up without our help too.)

Workshops

If group discussion is meant to help you process new ideas, workshops are meant to help you put those ideas into action! We’ll offer two opportunities to engage in workshops on topics relevant to faith and college life.

We are currently looking for presenters and workshop leaders who have experience working with young adults and are excited to share information on a particular topic. If selected, workshop leaders will have their conference fee waived and will receive a $100 stipend. (Please note that workshop leaders will be responsible for securing their own room and board.)
