As summer begins to wind down, we are already dreaming of fall in the mountains! And with its crisp mornings, vibrant fall foliage, and the soothing sounds of Flat Creek, there’s no better place to experience the peaceful beauty of fall than the Montreat Family Campground. If you’d like to start planning a visit, we are currently accepting reservations for our 2026 season.
Located just around the corner from the Graybeard Trailhead, the Montreat Family Campground features 29 campsites available from May through the end of October. Campsites are best suited for tents and small pop-up campers, providing a simple and comfortable way to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit, and grill. Electrical or water hookups are not available; however, water spigots are close by, and two bathhouses provide campers with hot water, showers, toilets, and electrical outlets.
While the campground has much to offer during the summer months, autumn transforms the area, surrounding campers with beautiful fall foliage. Guests can spend their days relaxing, enjoying the cool mountain air and quiet moments beside Flat Creek, or can seek out adventure, exploring all that Montreat Conference Center’s campus has to offer. Whether you’re seeking a break from a busy schedule, time for prayer and reflection, or simply a chance to reconnect with nature, the campground provides a welcoming place to recharge.
Beyond its natural beauty, the Montreat Family Campground is known for the sense of community that develops among its guests. Families gather to continue cherished traditions, friends reconnect around evening campfires, and first-time visitors quickly discover a welcoming atmosphere. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping every camper feel at home and connected to the larger Montreat community.
Fall is also an ideal season to enjoy the area’s many outdoor activities. Hike Montreat’s scenic trail system as the mountains come alive with autumn color, cast a line for trout in Lake Susan, or spend an afternoon exploring the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. For younger campers, the onsite playground provides a place to play, while the slower pace of the season makes it easy for everyone to enjoy the outdoors together.
Some of the season’s best moments are the simplest ones. While staying at the campground, you can spend time walking along Flat Creek, sipping coffee by the campfire, or watching the leaves drift gently to the ground.
