Come to the Mountains: A Gathering for Youth Workers Seeking Connection, Growth, and Renewal

Posted on

Youth ministry is deeply rewarding work, but it also comes with unique challenges. Whether you serve as a volunteer leader, a church staff member, or an ordained minister, creating space for your own growth and renewal is essential for building a healthy and sustainable ministry. That’s why youth workers from across the country are invited to gather at Montreat Conference Center for the second annual Come to the Mountains event, taking place October 5–8, 2026.

Hosted in partnership with the Presbyterian Youth Workers Association (PYWA), this special gathering is designed to encourage, equip, and inspire those who serve young people in the church. Open to all youth workers—ordained and non-ordained, volunteers and professionals alike—Come to the Mountains offers a unique opportunity to step away from the demands of daily ministry and reconnect with both your calling and your colleagues.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of Montreat in the fall, participants will spend several days immersed in worship, learning, collaboration, and rest. The event’s schedule is intentionally designed to nurture both professional development and personal renewal.

This year’s gathering will feature inspiring worship and keynote sessions led by Rev. Dr. Kenda Creasy Dean and Rev. Neema Cyrus-Franklin. Their leadership and insight will encourage participants to think deeply about the future of youth ministry while offering practical steps forward.

In addition to keynote presentations, this year attendees can participate in interactive “Learning Labs.” These hands-on sessions are designed to sharpen ministry skills by encouraging participants to explore new approaches for engaging young people. Whether you are new to youth ministry or have years of experience, these sessions are for you!

“Soul Care” is another important focus of the event. We find that ministry leaders often spend so much time caring for others that they neglect their own spiritual and emotional well-being. Throughout the event, participants will have dedicated time for reflection, rest, and personal renewal, creating space to reconnect with God and restore their energy for ministry.

The gathering will also include an “Idea Exchange,” where youth workers can share personal experiences, discuss challenges, and collaborate on creative solutions. Our hope is that, through these conversations, participants will discover they are not alone in their ministry journeys and have a network of other youth workers they can rely on for advice and support.

To help ensure broad participation, scholarship funding is available for individuals who may benefit from financial assistance. Montreat Conference Center and PYWA are both committed to making this event accessible to all who feel called to attend.

Mark your calendar for October 5–8, 2026, and make plans to join fellow youth workers for a meaningful time of worship, learning, connection, and renewal. Discover more about Come to the Mountains and reserve your spot using the link below.
