This fall, makers, artists, writers, and lifelong learners are invited to join us this September for Fall Craft Week, an all-inclusive retreat hosted by Montreat Conference Center. Scheduled for September 27–October 2, Fall Craft Week offers a unique opportunity to explore artistic endeavors, develop new skills, and enjoy meaningful fellowship set against the backdrop of autumn in the mountains. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!
Each year, Fall Craft Week welcomes participants of all skill levels to learn from instructors in a supportive and encouraging environment. Whether you are a seasoned artist looking to refine your practice or a beginner eager to try something new, this event provides a chance to step away from your daily routine and immerse yourself in creative expression.
While several classes are already full, there are still openings in a variety of engaging workshops. Current classes with available space include:
Beginning Metalsmithing
Design and craft your own mixed-metal jewelry as you learn about sawing, riveting, soldering, and finishing.
Working with Wood: Personalized Walking Sticks
Create a custom walking stick while learning woodworking techniques. The class will help participants prepare their stick, design and carve a personalized symbol, and finish the work to create a unique piece of personal art.
Wood Carving Spoons, Animals, Folk Figures, and More
Explore the art of wood carving through a range of projects, from practical kitchen utensils to decorative folk art and whimsical folk figures.
Writing for the Soul
Designed for writers of all levels, this class encourages personal reflection and creative exploration through guided writing exercises and discussion.
Drawing Life
This class will focus on capturing the moment using pens, pencils, pastels, and ink. See how drawing with intention can be a deeply moving, meditative process.
Linoleum Printing for Greeting Card Making
Learn the fundamentals of linoleum block printing and create handcrafted greeting cards featuring your own original designs.
Traditional Basket Making
Explore the ancient craft of basket weaving as you create your own functional, beautiful pieces. You’ll learn the fundamentals of working with natural fibers, drawing on techniques rooted in the Appalachian tradition.
Exploring Photography in the Mountains
Transform your photography from simple snapshots into intentional works of art! This class will explore the technical foundations of exposure, composition, and style.
Youth Track – Mosaic Mirror
Designed for youth between the ages of 13 and 17, this new track invites participants to build a one-of-a-kind mosaic mirror. This hands-on experience is perfect for both beginners and seasoned artists.
These classes provide participants with a chance to learn new techniques, connect with fellow creatives, and complete projects that reflect their individual interests and talents.
